Affection Folds (2023, 2024) grounds itself in neuroarts research on the effects of mark making on brain and body health. By mirroring imagery and exploring closeness with nature and multiplicity through abstract and figurative painting, I attempt to increase flow between brain hemispheres and body. It explores what it feels like to mirror affection, especially affection between each other and the more than human, seeking to amplify interconnections and ultimately deepen healthier forms of connection. The painterly composition or arrangement of marks is both an experimental and measured process; an exchange that involves both inquiry and response, to centre feelings and relational bodily experience. Through the process, I gain sensitivity and in turn respond to effects of materials and their networks of production and transformation.
