HIDDENBEINGS CREATIVE LABORATORY
The Monster and The Explorer is a three channel video installation on the theme of marginal voices and pathology that was first exhibited as part of the Masters of Applied Art second year group show in the Concourse Gallery at Emily Carr University. It was made through collaboration with Klara Du Plessis, Elisabeth Gill, Anna Sigg, Ali Pinkney, Adam Rosaduik, Carina de Klerk and Isobel Mohn. I wrote a text and asked my collaborators to help transform it into an event score by responding to it with images, drawings and ideas for how it could be performed. The boundary I set was to avoid literal representations of the text to encourage interjections, personal associations and articulations of social concerns. Collective contributions became the new rules or elements within the event score for performance. Collaborators negotiated their roles and the extent to which they wanted to be involved. I transformed the video recordings of the performance into the installation. Click to see a short clip.
